While some high-school students dream of bolting town and going as far away as possible to attend college, that was never a priority for Rossford senior Sammi Mikonowicz.
Mikonowicz felt a real sense of community at Rossford and she turned down several opportunities in order to stay close to home and share her college experience with those she holds close.
On Wednesday, Mikonowicz committed to join the University of Toledo women's basketball team as a walk-on.
“For me, I've never wanted to go far,” Mikonowicz said. “Some kids have that big dream that they want to get away for college.
