ESTERO, Fla. — Toledo’s quest for the Gulf Coast Showcase championship ended just as it was beginning.
Missouri-Kansas City’s mixture of man-to-man defense and zone forced the Rockets into one of their worst shooting performances in recent seasons and a stunning 83-71 loss Monday afternoon in the first round of the Thanksgiving holiday tournament at Hertz Arena.
“We never got into a flow,” Toledo coach Tod Kowalczyk said.
UT was 2 for its final 12 as UMKC outscored the Rockets 18-6 over the last 4 minutes, 13 seconds.
