A late run to end the first half helped the University of Toledo women’s basketball team gain the upper hand as it came away with a 75-63 victory over NCAA Division II Wayne State in a game at Savage Arena on Wednesday.
With the Rockets ahead 31-30, they used a 7-0 run in the final two minutes of the first half to create some separation. Kendall Carruthers hit a 3-pointer and added a layup, and a bucket by Evalyse Cole gave UT a 38-30 advantage and the momentum heading into the locker room.
Toledo shot 52 percent (15 of 29) in the first half compared to Wayne State’s 35 percent (12 of 34).
