University of Toledo seniors Mariella Santucci and Sara Rokkanen came to Toledo speaking little English.
Santucci, from Bologna, Italy, and Rokkanen, from Helsinki, Finland, were forced to adjust to a new culture as well as the demands of academics and athletics at an American college.
The duo, which will be honored on senior day on Saturday against Northern Illinois along with graduate transfer Arianne Whitaker and junior Nakiah Black, has come a long way since stepping foot on the Toledo campus.
Santucci and Rokkanen learned quickly what it took to be successful as they were part of an NCAA tournament team their freshman season.
