Toledo vs. Miami: 3 MAC championship game storylines to follow

For the second consecutive season, the University of Toledo will play in the Mid-American Conference championship game at Ford Ford in Detroit.

And for the second time this season, the Rockets look across the line of scrimmage and see the Miami RedHawks. This time it’s for all the MACtion.

One thing that will look different for the RedHawks is the person behind center. Starting quarterback Brett Gabbert suffered a season-ending injury against UT in October, a game the Rockets won 21-17 at Yager Stadium in Oxford. Backup QB Aveon Smith is the guy now.

This is the second straight season Toledo will face a backup in the MAC title game, as Ohio’s Kurtis Rourke tore his ACL weeks before the championship game last year.
