After an improbable run to the Mid-American Conference tournament title as the No. 7 seed, the University of Toledo softball team learned its NCAA tournament fate Sunday.
The Rockets will head to the Lexington (Ky.) Regional where they join the Kentucky Wildcats as well as Power 5 conference teams in Virginia Tech and Illinois.
Toledo opens the tournament at 2:30 p.m. Friday against host Kentucky, the No. 14 overall seed in the tournament.
“We pretty much figured it would be Kentucky,” first-year coach Joe Abraham said. “We were pretty sure it would be Kentucky, so I wasn’t too surprised.
