For the first time since 1992 and just the third time in program history, the University of Toledo softball team will be playing in the NCAA tournament.
The Rockets (29-26, 10-9 MAC) made an improbable run through the Mid-American Conference tournament as the No. 7 seed for their first-ever conference tournament title and will face No. 14 Kentucky (33-22, 14-10 SEC) on Friday at 2:30 p.m. in the Lexington regional.
Joining Toledo and Kentucky in the Lexington regional are Virginia Tech (45-9, 20-4 ACC) and Illinois (32-23, 9-14 Big Ten).
In 1989, Toledo qualified for the NCAA tournament by winning the MAC regular-season title and advanced to the College World Series after winning the Iowa City sub-regional.
