For the first half of the game at Eastern Michigan on Saturday, the University of Toledo football team was not ready to play sound football.
Penalties, missed assignments, and poor communication plagued the Rockets as they put themselves in a 28-3 hole at halftime.
Toledo coach Jason Candle said he takes responsibility for the slow start and a lapse in preparation leading up to the game. Right from the beginning, Toledo was its own worst enemy.
“We jumped offsides on the first play of the game on defense,” Candle said. “We lined up wrong on the play that was called from the sideline on our very first play of the game on offense.
