NASSAU, Bahamas — David Hood was 1,15 miles away from home during one of the hardest chapters of his life.
The Miami Gardens, Fla., native was a college freshman, a period of extreme adjustment for any student, let alone a football player trying to become acclimated to a taxing lifestyle, when he learned his father was murdered.
The news hit Hood like an avalanche. But he wasn’t alone. At his side was Toledo coach Jason Candle.
