On Oct. 12, 1991, the University of Toledo football team stepped onto the field at Husky Stadium with the improbable task of trying to upset undefeated Washington.
The Rockets were coming off a 17-13 win over Ohio University, but were no match for the eventual national champions, losing 48-0.
It was the second-worst loss under legendary Toledo head coach Gary Pinkel, who was a former Huskies assistant coach for 12 years and the offensive coordinator for Washington’s 1990 Rose Bowl team.
“I told them we’d have some adversity, but that pride and heart had to be a factor,” Pinkel told The Blade.
