In the most excruciating fashion, Toledo’s defense forgot how to tackle.
Leading archrival Bowling Green 35-34 with 21 seconds left, BG quarterback Matt McDonald connected with running back Ta’Ron Keith on a short pass to the UT 35-yard line. The Rockets then missed three tackles and Keith giddily crossed the goal line with nine seconds left.
Final score: Bowling Green 42, Toledo 35. The result was one of the most thrilling finishes in the Battle of I-75’s 87-game history. And an agonizing loss for UT.
“You never want to lose to those guys,” Toledo coach Jason Candle said.
