AVON — The 100th University of Toledo baseball season ended just like the previous 99: without an NCAA tournament berth.
Trying to accomplish something that hadn’t been done in two decades – winning the Mid-American Conference tournament from the losers’ bracket – the Rockets suffered a 6-3 season-ending loss to Miami on Sunday in the first game of the championship series.
The fifth-seeded Rockets (32-29) were running on fumes, playing in their sixth game in four days after winning three consecutive elimination games. No. 1 seed Miami (35-21) only needed three total games to clinch its first MAC title in 20 years.
