The anatomy of the game-clinching play in Toledo's loss to Western Michigan

KALAMAZOO, Mich. — If you watch the replay of Western Michigan’s game-clinching play against Toledo on Wednesday night, you can clearly hear a whistle in the same split second that Western Michigan snaps the football and quarterback Kaleb Eleby fakes a spike.

That’s backed up by the body language of the Toledo players, most of whom stand up thinking the play is dead and the ball is on the ground.

But, unbeknownst to them, Eleby still has the ball in hand as he spots a wide-open Jaylen Hall in the end zone for the 9-yard score, giving the Broncos a 41-38 advantage with 17 seconds left to play.
