Pike carrying over momentum, learning new position in college summer baseball

SANDUSKY — Garret Pike hasn’t missed a beat.

Following a strong freshman season at the University of Toledo, the Anthony Wayne graduate is having an All-Star campaign with the Sandusky Ice Haulers in the Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League.

Pike started in right field Tuesday in the All-Star contest for the GLSCL, a wood bat league for college players.

Entering Friday’s game, Pike is batting .314 (16th in the league), with 33 hits (tied eighth), seven doubles (fourth), four home runs (fourth), and 28 runs scored (third) in 27 games.

“I think he built a lot of confidence at Toledo, and I think what he did at Toledo helped him really come into the summer,” Sandusky coach Jared Hagan said.
