The Eagles have three UT connections: punter Brett Kern, assistant coach DK McDonald, and strength coach Ted Rath.
Kern, the 2007 Mid-American Conference special teams player of the year, is a member of the Varsity T Hall of Fame, McDonald was the cornerbacks coach at Toledo from 2012 to 2015 under Matt Campbell, and Rath was a linebacker for the 2004 MAC champions and later a graduate assistant and assistant strength coach.
The path to the Super Bowl for Kern was unpredictable.
