TOLEDO, Ohio – Senior Petronela Simiuc was named Mid-American Conference Women's Track Athlete of the Week, the conference announced today.
The Bacau, Romania native broke the Toledo record in the mile with a time of 4:38.40, placing sixth overall at the John Thomas Terrier Classic in Boston, Mass. on Friday. The previous mark of 4:39.81 was set in 2014 by Megan Wright at the SPIRE D1 Invitational. Simiuc had been No. 3 in the all-time list with a time of 4:42.92, set at last year's David Hemery Valentine Invitational, also hosted by Boston University.
Simiuc is ranked first in the MAC and sixth in the NCAA in the mile.
