DETROIT — The Mid-American Conference championship game started badly for Toledo, and ended worse.
The 23rd-ranked Rockets entered Saturday with slim hopes of a New Year’s Six bowl, but the winningest season in program history was within reach.
Miami squashed those dreams with an opportunistic offense, a brutish defensive line, and game-changing special teams play resulting in a 23-14 victory to avenge an October loss to UT.
“My heart breaks for our team,” Toledo coach Jason Candle said. “It’s a senior class that’s a mixture of fourth, fifth, and sixth-year guys that have laid it on the line for this football program.
