Not only is Toledo winning at a high rate this season, with Saturday’s 49-31 victory over Western Michigan strengthening UT’s status as the team to beat in the Mid-American Conference.
The Rockets are doing it with hometown players filling some of the most important roles on the team.
“There are good players in our area, and we’ve been able to get most of them to stay home,” Toledo coach Jason Candle said.
St. John’s Jesuit graduate Dallas Gant is a captain and defensive stalwart at linebacker. Springfield’s Tyler Long is a multi-year starter on the offensive line.
