Toledo, Ohio— Junior libero Maurissa Leonard was named MAC West Defensive Player of the Week, the league office announced on Tuesday.
A preseason All-MAC West selection, this is the fifth time Leonard has earned a weekly accolade from the MAC in her career.
At the BG/UT Invitational this past weekend, the junior averaged a terrific 5.7 digs per set in matches against Southeastern Louisiana, VCU, and Notre Dame. Leonard tallied 19 digs against the Lions in a three-game sweep, 18 against the Rams, and 20 against the Fighting Irish, the second time she's had at least 20 digs in a game this season; the other instance came in the season-opener against SIU Edwardsville when she had 26.
