TOLEDO, Ohio – Junior forward JT Shumate of the Toledo men's basketball team has been named the Mid-American Conference Male Scholar-Athlete of the Week, the league office announced today. Shumate currently holds a 3.85 grade-point average as a middle childhood education major.
Shumate led Toledo to a pair of double-digit victories last week by averaging 18.5 ppg, 7.0 rpg and 4.5 bpg and shooting 54.2 percent (13-of-24) from the field, 5-of-10 from three-point range and 6-of-7 from the free-throw line in wins over Ohio and Northern Illinois.
Shumate opened the week by tallying 17 points, seven rebounds and a career-high seven blocked shots in a 77-62 win over the Bobcats, Shumate then scored 20 points and grabbed seven rebounds in a 100-72 victory at NIU.
