Ten to 15 minutes of a University of Toledo volleyball practice is devoted to serving drills on any given day.
Carts full of volleyballs get rolled out, and the team takes turns at the service line aiming to hit one of the cones placed on the court.
Despite the little time practicing the skill, the Rockets have tied their best start in program history, largely because they sit No. 1 in the country in total service aces [121] and aces per set [2.42].
“We never set out to have the serving stats that we have right now and as a team, I still don't know if we've even really talked about where we sit with aces,” first-year coach Brian Wright said.
