Braden Awls didn’t record a single turnover in his first year with the University of Toledo football team.
In the last two seasons, he has turned into one of the Mid-American Conference’s best ballhawks, leading the league with four interceptions through eight games.
Awls notched two of his four picks in Saturday’s game against Washington State, but field vision and ball location is nothing new to him, having played on offense until his junior season at Central Catholic High School.
“I played offense for the most part, playing receiver and running back, so I was used to tracking the ball in the air and having to make plays on the football,” Awls said.
