Briggs: Toledo's all-time beatdown more a credit to Ohio State than a red flag

COLUMBUS — Close might count in hand grenades, but not in the Horseshoe.

That’s good news for the Toledo football team, because its 77-21 loss to No. 3 Ohio State on Saturday night was close the way Columbus is close to Toledo ... Spain.

Yikes.

If it’s any comfort to Rockets fans, it’s that there will be no what-ifs after a pillar-to-post thumping as comprehensive as it was historic.

University of Toledo QB Dequan Finn is brought down by Ohio State safety Cameron Martinez, September 17, at Ohio Stadium in Columbus.

This was U-G-L-Y, and there’s no way to spin it.

Ohio State was damn near as prolific as it has ever been — its 763 yards were the second-most in program history — and Toledo was about as generous as it’s ever been.
