Briggs: Star-studded Eastern Michigan is no good, very bad, and as Toledo learns, very dangerous

It is the Mid-American Conference’s version of a fantasy basketball roster.

To a team that already featured high-scoring guard Noah Farrakhan, Eastern Michigan this season added two former top-300 recruits from major programs — second-year forwards Jalin Billingsley (Georgetown) and Legend Geeter (Providence) — and college hoops’ most heralded free agent.

You remember Emoni Bates.

He transferred to Eastern Michigan in his hometown of Ypsilanti after a season at Memphis and years of breathless buildup.

Bates graced the cover of Sports Illustrated, under the headline: “Born For This: Magic, Michael, LeBron ... and the 15-year-old Who’s Next in Line,” and his prep legend only kept growing.
