Briggs: After freak injury, Jackson ready to help lift Rockets

It was the strangest thing.

“I never thought that could happen on a basketball court,” Willie Jackson said.

“Ever,” Toledo basketball coach Tod Kowalczyk said.

So, naturally, it did ... in March.

During warmups before the quarterfinals of the MAC tournament last year, Jackson — a 6-foot-6 senior forward with more bounce than a birthday party castle — submitted a one-in-a-trillion new entry to the Rockets’ hard-luck postseason history.

He got a concussion on a pregame dunk.

Yes, the Cleveland native was so cranked up for the homecoming game in an NBA arena that one of his windmilling slams sizzled through the net with such force that the ball nearly knocked him out.
