Entering last season, one of the biggest question marks was how Toledo would replace first-round draft pick Quinyon Mitchell.
The answer: quite well.
Avery Smith earned second-team All-Mid-American Conference honors after finishing second in the nation with 14 pass breakups, again making life difficult for opposing quarterbacks who attempted to throw against the Rockets.
“With Quinyon leaving, Avery to [Nasir Bowers] and the rest of the guys embraced the challenge of, we have a great opportunity and we’re not worried about it,” cornerbacks coach Perry Eliano said.
