Texas Tech's Jarrett Culver named Big 12 player of the year; Chris Beard earns coach of the year honors

Earning a share of the Big 12 regular-season championship bodes well for the conference's award season.

Sophomore forward Jarrett Culver was named the Big 12's player of the year on Saturday after averaging 18.3 points, 6.2 rebounds and 3.6 assists during the regular season. He is the first Red Raider to earn the honor.

Head coach Chris Beard was named the conference's coach of the year for the second straight season after leading the Red Raiders to their first share of a Big 12 regular-season championship with a 14-4 conference record.

Texas Tech finished the season on a nine-game win streak and will face the winner between Oklahoma and West Virginia in the Big 12 quarterfinals on Thursday in Kansas City.
