Texas A&M was a few minutes away from going into halftime with a 7-point deficit against Mississippi State. Nick Fitzgerald had other ideas. The Bulldogs' junior quarterback rattled off a 45-yard run. Two plays later, he found Donald Gray for an 8-yard touchdown pass. The score not only gave the visitors a 14-0 lead at the halftime break, but it summed up A&M's woes in the first half. Fitzgerald's big run on the scoring drive singlehandedly outgained Texas A&M in the first half. The Aggies only had 33 total yards at the break.
