Texas Tech senior G Keenan Evans played through NCAA tournament with broken toe

BOSTON - Keenan Evans finished the regular season and led Texas Tech to the Elite Eight playing on a broken right toe, the senior point guard said Sunday.

After Texas Tech's 71-59 loss to Villanova in the NCAA East Regional semifinal, Evans confirmed the injury, suffered Feb. 17 at Baylor. Surgery is the likely option now, he said.

"We kind of knew it was broken from the time it happened. We knew that from the beginning," Evans said.

The Tech medical staff taped the toe and used different shoes and inserts.

"[The doctor] was saying you have to deal with the pain but it can't get any worse," Evans said.
