Texas Tech has only lost to one FCS team in its history — a 29-24 loss to North Texas in 1988, only back then it was called Division I-AA. After squeaking out a close 42-35 win over Central Arkansas last season, the Red Raiders are now 17-1 against the lower classification.
Red Raiders coach Kliff Kingsbury knows Sam Houston State is not an ordinary FCS team, though. It defeated that same Central Arkansas team last season 38-31 and advanced to the FCS semifinal game.
In 2011 and 2012 it went to the FCS title game before losing to powerhouse North Dakota State.
