Texas Tech football: Why 2018 is the perfect time to make a coaching change

As athletic director Kirby Hocutt weighs what is undoubtedly one of the toughest decisions of his career, whether to fire or retain Kliff Kingsbury, he must be struggling with trying to figure out how much a change would set the Texas Tech football program back in the short term. Certainly, there are plenty of factors to consider.

First of all, the new December signing period for recruits makes a coaching change far more difficult. In years past, a coach hired at the end of December had some time before February’s signing day to contact recruits and try to keep the class in tact or add new players.
