Texas Tech Football places scoring efficiency above clock management

“I think in your 18 scoring drives this season that resulted in touchdowns, I think 11 of them have resulted in under a minute-and-a-half. Do you ever want that to be higher? I mean, I know you guys want to score quickly, but for your own defensive, does that run through your mind trying to control the clock a little bit more?”

In several conferences — especially the Big 12, where having a lethal dual-threat quarterback isn’t optional — you see more and more of these schools run a no-huddle or hurry up offense. And with the rise in this uptempo scheme, defenses have an opportunity to play against their own offenses in practices so they know what to expect through a preventative lens.
