Several Texas Tech recruits were informed of changes to the Red Raiders coaching staff Sunday, saying that co-defensive coordinator and defensive line coach Mike Smith and cornerbacks coach Kevin Curtis would not return for next season.
Taylor’s Damarcus Fields, who had an in-home visit with Kevin Curtis on Sunday, confirmed the assistant coach was no longer going to coach at Texas Tech.
“He told me face-to-face,” said Fields, a 6-foot, 180-pound cornerback commit, of his conversation with Curtis, who played at Coronado and Texas Tech.
The senior said he was disappointed to not be coached by Curtis, who was like a “father figure” to him during the recruiting process.
