The Texas Tech baseball team got the 2016 season off to a strong start with a 3-1 series win over Wisconsin-Milwaukee at Rip Griffin Park. The star of the weekend was junior outfielder Stephen Smith who earned Big 12 Player of the Week honors for his tremendous play at the plate.
In the 4-game series, Smith knocked in five of Texas Tech 36 runs while hitting .571 and scoring seven runs. This is the first time in his three-year career that Smith has been named the conference player of the week, which is a bit surprising given how good he has been while at Texas Tech.
