One of Texas Tech’s interesting position battles over the next month is at defensive end where Zach Barnes opened with the first team during Monday’s first day of practice and Kolin Hill went with the first team during Wednesday’s early 11-on-11 period.
Defensive line coach Kevin Patrick insists the first-teamer at that position, and all those under him, is a moot point because he wants depth. Or, as he puts it, “eight starters” for his four positions.
Nevertheless, he said Hill’s arrival benefits all involved.
“I think one of the biggest things with Zach Barnes was Kolin Hill coming into play,” Patrick said this week.
