Texas Tech redshirt junior La’Darius Newbold is transferring to Illinois State.
The defensive back made two tackles in four games during his three-year Red Raiders career. His departure likely won’t impact the depth chart greatly, as the Red Raiders have 15 defensive backs returning and signed three in their 2015 recruiting class.
Efforts to obtain comment from Newbold on Tuesday afternoon were unsuccessful.
The 6-foot-1, 201-pound Newbold has two seasons of eligibility remaining and can immediately play at Illinois State because it’s a Football Championship Subdivision program, a step below the Football Bowl Subdivision the Red Raiders play in.
