Jakeem Grant carried one time last year against Arkansas, a long-forgotten play in a 49-28 Texas Tech loss. Long forgotten, that is, to everyone except Kliff Kingsbury and his staff.
Kingsbury said the seed for Grant’s 72-yard touchdown pass Saturday to Reginald Davis was planted last year when Grant – normally an inside receiver – carried the ball against the Razorbacks. On Saturday, Grant lined up in the backfield again, took a pitch and found Davis alone behind Arkansas coverage.
“We ran the play where he ran it against them last year and they triggered like crazy,” Kingsbury said, “so we’d seen them, knew the corner was aggressive, the safety was aggressive, and it worked out.
