ARLINGTON -- Back in the '70s in Howell, Mich., Dave Hibner played against Magic Johnson and starred in football and incited such fear in baseball that he once drew five intentional walks in a single game. Which didn't tell a dozen scouts much. One threw Hibner batting practice afterward just so everyone could actually see him swing.
Dave Hibner, the ninth pick of the '77 draft, remains the best athlete in Howell history 42 years after the Rangers took him.
And 38 years after they released him.
Moral: Unless you're talking about a kid with a name like Bobby Witt Jr.
