Sophomore quarterback Patrick Mahomes impressed in Texas Tech’s first game of the season.
Mahomes completed 33-of-53 passes for 425 yards and four touchdowns.
He also threw one interception.
Mahomes caught the attention of Red Raider fans early with a 64-yard touchdown throw to Devin Lauderdale.
Later, he scrambled away from a sack and found Ian Sadler in the end zone for another score.
His ability to throw off the run, and pick up yards with his feet — 48 rushing yards — helped Mahomes excel against Sam Houston State
