Pirtle: Defense way ahead of offense in college basketball, and it needs to change

A-J MEDIA

I’m all about defensive basketball.

Maybe it’s because of all the grueling defensive stance drills I did growing up that made me appreciate the hard work done on that side of the ball.

The offense has a game plan, and the defense is there to crash the party.

But by crash, I mean steal the ball and throw down a fast break dunk on the other end. Not reach and hand check, making it hard for the offensive player to score because the defense is literally all over him.

When the defense is allowed to be that physical, the offense has a slim chance of getting more than 50 points that game.
