With four spots available in the College Football Playoff and five power conferences, elementary level math reveals that someone will be left out. Last season, that musical chairs loser was the Big 12 — times two — as Baylor and TCU finished one and two spots out of the inaugural playoff.
“Our key is to control our own destiny, and the best way to do that is to try to win them all,” TCU coach Gary Patterson told the Associated Press. “That’s what we’re going to try to get done. Then we’ll see how everything else falls.”
Despite the snub, the Big 12 was the closest conference to landing multiple teams in the playoff.
