MLB draft series: Texas Tech's Josh Jung is a first-round talent who could fill an immediate need for the Rangers

Editor's note: This is the first in a series looking at candidates for the Rangers to take with the No. 8 pick in June's MLB draft.

On June 3, the Rangers will take another crack at hitting on a high draft choice.

They will have the eighth overall pick in the amateur draft. It is their highest choice since 2015, when they chose Cal-Santana Barbara right-hander Dillon Tate as fourth overall.

The Rangers whiffed on Tate.

He has been traded to the New York Yankees, in the Carlos Beltran deal, and Baltimore. There is increasing doubt that Tate will ever make it to the majors.
