Investing for returns: Tech makes special-teams assistant its top-paid position coach

Tech makes Robinson one of its top-paid assistants

Outside of the coordinators, special teams coach Joe Robinson will be the highest-paid member of Texas Tech’s football staff this season.

Part of that no doubt has to do with experience — Robinson. 55, is the oldest of the 17 assistants Tech coach Kliff Kingsbury’s hired in four years. But he also comes with a reputation for stellar special teams, an area in which Tech is looking for better all-around play.

Robinson’s annual pay rate is $250,000 which, among the assistants, is more than all but defensive coordinator David Gibbs, who’s making $550,000 in the second year of a two-year contract, and offensive coordinator Eric Morris, who’s making $260,000.
