Houston announces ex-Texas Tech offensive coordinator Dana Holgorsen as its new head coach

UPDATE (2:10 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 2): Houston announced on Wednesday afternoon that it hired former West Virginia head coach and ex-Texas Tech offensive coordinator Dana Holgorsen as its new head coach.

"I'm beyond excited for the opportunity to return to Houston and lead this program. This city and the University of Houston has unlimited potential and I am honored to be a part of it," Holgorsen said. "I look forward to meeting our student-athletes and establishing a culture that thrives on championship competition, on and off the field."

UPDATE (11:20 p.m. Monday, Dec. 31): SB Nation's Steven Godfrey, Alex Kirshner and Jason Kirk report that West Virginia's Dana Holgorsen has an agreement with Houston to become the Cougars' next head coach.
