From Campbell to Snyder, Big 12 coaches not defined by age

Matt Campbell hoped his wife would hear this.

The youngest head football coach in the Big 12 — at age 36 — had just been referred to as “hip and cool” at Big 12 media days in July.

The first-year Iowa State coach mentioned that those who know him well wouldn’t refer to him as such but to him, age is just a number. What counts the most is experience.

“It’s about the opportunity of who you learned under,” Campbell said. “I think it really builds who we all are as coaches and I think every head coach that comes up here today is a product of who they learned the game of football under and the people that they were around.
