SAN MARCOS, Texas – Richard West, Texas State's starting right tackle in 2022, signed a free agent contract with the New Orleans Breakers of the USFL, the team announced on Wednesday.
Originally from San Antonio, West started all 12 games in 2022 in his lone season as a Bobcat. He surrendered only two sacks on more than 500 pass attempts by the Bobcats and was among the best pass-blocking tackles in the Sun Belt, according to PFF rankings. He played in 831 of Texas State's 850 offensive snaps throughout the season.
West played his first four collegiate seasons at Texas A&M-Commerce, where he appeared in 29 games and was a part of one of the top offenses in the Lone Star Conference each year.
