Sun Belt Media Day: As Texas State tries to regain pre-2015 form, Withers wants to put his stamp on program

NEW ORLEANS — This time a year ago, Texas State was trending upward.

Since jumping to the Football Bowl Subdivision in 2012, every year prior to 2015 had been an improvement for the Bobcats who progressed from 4-8 that first season to 6-6 in 2013 and eventually 7-5 in 2014.

Last season was supposed to be Texas State’s best ever in the FBS ranks. Many predicted that the Bobcats would make their first bowl appearance and improve their stock as a burgeoning Group of Five program.

Obviously none of that happened. Instead, Texas State endured a dismal 3-9 campaign in which Dennis Franchione’s program lost six road games by an average margin of 30 points compared to a 13-point differential inside Bobcat Stadium.
