NEW ORLEANS, La. – The Sun Belt Conference announced Wednesday that Kwanele Mthembu has been named the 2021 Outdoor Track and Field Men's Newcomer of the Year in a vote of league coaches and that 14 Bobcats earned All-Sun Belt Conference honors.
Mthembu was named the Newcomer of the Year after setting a meet record and winning the men's 10,000-race in a time of 28:48.33 at the 2021 Sun Belt Outdoor Championships on May 13-15. He also placed sixth in the 5,000-meter race.
He is joined on the Men's All-Sun Belt First-Team by Jaylen Allen, Pedro Osorio Lopez, Kobe Daniels, and Taahir Kelly.
