NEW ORLEANS – For the third consecutive week, the Sun Belt Conference has named a Texas State Bobcat a Student-Athlete of the Week. This week, freshman Jonathan Ortega claimed the honor along with being named the CollegeSportsMadness.com's Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week.
In four games last week, one at Baylor and three against UL Monroe, Ortega racked up 10 hits in 20 at-bats for a .500 batting average. In the 12-3 upset at Baylor, Ortega was 4-for-6 with two doubles, two runs and an RBI. He went 5-for-6 in the series finale against UL Monroe, scoring three runs with an RBI and a double.
