Texas State is in 11th place in a field of 15 teams, including No. 5 Illinois, No. 21 Kansas State and fellow Sun Belt Conference member, No. 49 Southern Mississippi.
The Bobcats closed out the first round four-over 288, while Illinois leads the field 21-under.
Kasper Nyland shot two rounds five-under 66, a new single round low for the junior.
